'stopping power' which was a phenomenon coined by law enforcement meaning to knock someone down even unconscious but not kill them, hence to arrest them.... as opposed to 'knockdown power' which is a military term most notably related to the thirty aught six basically the 10mm is a knockdown cartrige, if you shoot someone with a moderately loaded 10mm chances are they're done regardless of where you hit them so long as it's somewhere center mass or the head it's game over with the 10mm ...and that's too much for a police sidearm
